Membership of the society is open to those who have an interest in model engineering, steam engines,, and miniature railways. We particularly welcome those with good engineering knowledge but consideration is given to those who wish to learn or have

specific DIY skills.

Members are expected to help on site to maintain the assets of the society and/or help out for both club and public events. The majority of our members have an interest in railways and running trains either for their own enjoyment or for the public. There are members with other interests, traction engines, stationary engines, etc. – all are welcomed and catered for.

If you are interested please fill in an application form in the first instance. This can be done by the ‘online’ form and emailed to the secretary. Or print off the PDF and fill in manually. The PDF can then be scanned and emailed or posted to the secretary (contact details are on the form). Both forms are available below.

Types of membership:

Full Member: 21 and over and living within 50 miles of the site in Onley Lane. Each full member will hold a £1 share in the limited company and have voting rights at any legally convened general meeting and may hold office for the society. Currently a full member pays £45 per year.

Country Member: 21 and over and living over 50 miles away from the site in Onley Lane. Each country member will hold a £1 share in the limited company and have voting rights at any legally convened general meeting. Currently a country member pays £25 per year.

Associate Member: Open to those 21 and over who are a spouse, partner, or direct relative to a Full or Country Member. An associate member cannot hold a share in the limited company or hold office for the society. Currently there is no charge for associates.

Junior Member: Open to youngsters aged 10 years and above provided they are supervised by a parent or guardian at all times whilst on site. This means we can only accept applications that are accompanied by an application for the nominated supervisor. The only exception to this is where an existing RMES member is willing to act in a supervisory role for the junior applicant. Junior members may not hold office for the society. Currently a junior member pays £5 per year (10 to 18 years old).

If a 19 – 20 year old is interested in joining please contact the secretary in the first instance for further information.

On receiving a completed application form this is passed to the committee of management for consideration at their next meeting. If accepted then the due payment is required before membership can be issued. The acceptance for membership is at the discretion of the committee and their decision is final.
